A post, a post

Right, assuming I don’t mess this up somehow, this is the first proper post for my shiny new blog.

Where to begin, where to begin? I think I’ll have to assume that you know roughly who I am, and vaguely what I’ve been up to recently.

News in brief from the last few months…

I’m engaged. Hannah (my fiancée) and I have got a flat in Selly Oak, Birmingham here (ish) so that’s cool.

I’ve just bought a motorbike, so that I’ll be able to commute from Birmingham to Nottingham for my final year at Uni (looking forward to that now, weirdly). It’s a 1995 M-reg Black Suzuki GS500ES with a fairing and panniers and top box. I’ve so far bought a big-ass chain for it, and lock the front wheel with a D-lock. It’s very hard not to feel it’s very vulnerable. I tried putting it in the shed at the bottom of the garden, but the slope is too steep and I nearly died trying to get it up and down . So now it’s parked out front, which gives me the jitters. I hope it’ll be OK. I’ve got a big heavy-duty cover being delivered around now, and another lock. It’s got an alarm, but there’s something wrong with it. I’d like to get that fixed as another deterrent. Well I think I’ve gone on about that long enough now. I’m sure there will be some pictures up some time.

I’m still working at IBM. I’ve been making a last drive to finish that part of the project that I’ve been working on, as I’m changing teams on Monday. I’m doing the last bit of commenting and documenting at the moment; which is highly motivating, as you might imagine. I’m going to be moving to the GUI test team. I have no idea what that really means, but it’ll be a change.

Soooooooo, err, I could tell you about our trip back from the Big Smoke when we went to pick up the bike, but it’s kind of old news now, I can’t really be bothered.

I am going to be doing my first really long ride on it on Friday to go up to Birmingham (about 120 miles by A road and Motorway) so that’ll be fun (maybe).

Hannah’s dragging me along to studio cycling on Saturday (where you all get together in a room and cycle for an hour without going anywhere 😉 and we’re going to see our friend Kat in Carmina Burana.

I can’t think of anything else to write for now. This first real post has been a kind of “get up to speed” post. I don’t know yet whether this blog is likely to be a “what I’ve been up to” or a “what I’m thinking” type mess. Probably a mixture of the two. Anyway, I really had better go and do some work. TTFN.
