Weekend up “north”

By | 29th April 2003

Hello. I wrote a nice long update for this a while ago and forgot to save it. d’oh. Of course, I can’t remember anything that happened in that post so it will have to go with me to the grave.

More recently (i.e. a short enough period in the past that my deficient memory can recollect it) we went to see Carl, Susie, Sooty and Sweep in Kirkby-in-Ashfield. We went up via Birmingham to break up the journey a bit, pick up some stuff of Hannahs and go to the gym. Oh, and undo all the good from the gym by having breakfast in Selly Sausage. You can probably guess what kind of breakfast that was.

Anyhoo, after a little trouble with Storm’s choke sticking, we got up there OK and went geocaching. I found the cache, hahaha; I win, one to nothin’! Erm, yes. Then we had a barbeque and Carl and I did the male thing of degenerating into cave-men. It took many fire lighters and random bits of wood and huffing and puffing to get it going. Now, I’m not completely incompetent when it comes to fire-lighting. I’ve lit fires with a battery and a piece of steel wool and the like and have made more bonfires come to life than I can remember. It was very windy, however and it was a tribute to our perseverance that we were able to eat ourselves cross-eyed on burgers, sausages, steak and in Hannah’s case, Quorn.

We then watched Moulin Rouge and Hannah blubbed at the end 🙂

On Sunday, we went to Newstead Abbey and did middle-aged style wandering around taking photos like this one.

I rather like it. Credit to Carl for that one. I took some myself with my diddy little GSmart MiniII and was quite pleased with them. They’ll go up when I sort my gallery script out properly.

In other news, I’ve booked Storm in for a service (reminds me, must make it an MOT too) and am awaiting the date with trepidation. I’ll be happy once that’s come and gone, she needs it I think.

Anyway, I’d better do some work. I think I’ve rambled on long enough. I must try to keep up to date better.
